Control System Design Guide, Functional Test Guide and Test Procedures
UPDATE:
Through a recent NASEO STAC project, the Functional Testing Guide and Control System Design Guide have been updated and expanded with new content. The Guides are now in an online format and available at http://www.peci.org/ftguide.
Goal Statement:
To assemble and develop a set of manual tools, test procedures, and guides to support the commissioning of heating,
ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This phase of Functional Test Guide development focuses on
commonly installed air-handling system configurations.
Results:
The FT Guide development milestones were as follows:
- Reviewed the functional test library (FLT) information that Ken Gillespie
of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) had already developed. This internal PG&E task is called the Commissioning Test Protocol Library (CTPL).
- Revised the original scope of work and deliverables based on Ken Gillespie's ongoing work on the CTPL and on peer feedback from a
working session at the National Conference on Building Commissioning 2001.
- Developed and delivered an FTL specification document.
- Published "A New Guide for Commissioning Air Handling Systems: Using a Model Functional Test"
(740 KB, 14 pp),
in the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) 2002 Summer Study proceedings.
- Distributed an internal review draft functional test (FT) Guide (Sept. 2002), including new test procedures and testing information.
- Distributed a semi-public FT Guide draft and obtained comments from paid reviewers (Nov. 2002)
The first public release version was released at the 11th National Conference on Building Commissioning, May 2003. The
completed guides
were handed out in CD-ROM format and a
conference paper summarizing the guides was presented.
