Thermal Distribution Systems

Collage of various images associated with Thermal Distribution Systems research including: a leak between a supply duct and a VAV box, a bar chart, Duo Wang measuring leakage airflows, five different flow hoods, another measurement of leakage airflows, and schematic of a tracer gas system.

Motivation / Problem Statement

Building industry unaware of substantial opportunities for energy savings from improving inefficient air-handling systems.

Activities / Approach

Develop technologies, test methods, modeling capabilities, and standards for design, installation, and commissioning of efficient thermal energy distribution systems.

Accomplishments / Outcomes

Improved airflow measurement tool and retrofit technology, demonstrated air-handling system improvements.

Future / Follow-on

NCEMBT project — small commercial diagnostics.

Relationship to Other Projects
