Advanced Lighting Controls

Collage of various images associated with Advanced Lighting Controls including: a wireless environmental sensor and node, a line chart, a Dust Networks wireless node, close-up of a sensor, and a ballast with embedded intelligence.

Motivation / Problem Statement

Advanced lighting controls underutilized in commercial buildings, especially existing buildings. Available systems immature, unintegrated, difficult to commission.

Activities / Approach

Constructed "proof-of-concept" control systems using wired, powerline and wireless communications.

Accomplishments / Outcomes

Developed software framework, IBECS, that integrates building control operation across disparate networks. Prototyped wireless lighting control system (Dust Networks); product available 4Q 2006.

Future / Follow-on

Integration with other building systems, including life safety.

Relationship to Other Projects

Daylighting, Advanced Commissioning
