Daylighting Modeling

Collage of various images associated with Daylighting Modeling including: a DElight Sphiral object, a line chart, an illustration of the bidirectional measurements of prismatic film light incidence, and a diagram of incident light at a single incoming direction hitting a CFS light-transmitting 'Surface' and the resulting transmitted light at multiple outgoing directions.

Motivation / Problem Statement

Develop daylighting analysis methods for complex fenestration systems (CFS) that can be easily integrated with whole-building simulation tools such as EnergyPlus.

Activities / Approach

Enhance DElight software module with new methods for analyzing CFS characterized with bi-directional transmittance data standards under development within IEA Task 31.

Accomplishments / Outcomes

Enhanced DElight software module integrated with EnergyPlus; generalized Building Geometry Library of objects and methods; publications in Energy and Buildings, and in IBPSA proceedings.

Future / Follow-on

Continuing enhancement and maintenance of DElight.

Relationship to Other Projects

EnergyPlus, Energy-10, BDA, AEDOT
