Power Control User Interfaces

Collage of various images associated with Power Control User Interfaces research including: portions of the Power Management Controls brochure, graphical symbols for office equipment, a power button, the moon symbol/sleep indicator, construction of the moon symbol.

Motivation / Problem Statement

Confusing and inconsistent power control user interfaces reduce savings from power management in electronics.

Activities / Approach

Work with electronics industry to develop and implement a standard for power control user interface elements.

Accomplishments / Outcomes

An approved international standard (IEEE 1621) codifying the research results, and incorporation into many products and other standards.

Future / Follow-on

Other energy-related user interfaces, e.g. lighting, HVAC, and smart appliances.

Relationship to Other Projects
