Arian Aghajanzadeh is a Scientific Engineering Associate in the Building Industrial Application Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Energy Technologies Area. He develops methodologies and software tools for demand response potential and energy efficiency impact estimation. Those software tools are helping California farmers in estimating the demand response potential of their irrigation pumps and global policy makers in estimating the impact (energy, greenhouse gas emission, and cost savings) of ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems.

Arian has worked on several demand response projects for the state of California to help the state integrate more intermittent renewable power (e.g. wind and solar) into the grid. His research interests are in the areas of energy, water, and their interconnection in the agricultural industry. His research goal is to help the World transition to sustainable energy, water, and food sources.

Prior to joining Berkeley Lab, Arian worked as a process engineer at Applied Materials, one of the world’s largest semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies. At Applied Materials, he worked on developing new products or modifying existing ones using Design of Experiment. As a graduate student at Cornell University, he worked on designing air conditioning systems using renewable energy sources (solar and geothermal), while studying to achieve the dean’s certificate of Energy Engineering and Economics. As a chemical engineer, he is trained to tackle analytically intensive problems. Working with large datasets is essential to his line of work, which has led him to master the skills required to interact with and analyze large datasets.
