Dr. Charlie Ćurčija is a scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division, leading the research in thermal and optical performance of windows, window shading, building facades and other fenestration systems. Charlie earned his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts in the field of thermal performance of windows in 1992 and prior to that earned his Bachelor and Masters degree in 1982 at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. He started his career as a mechanical design engineer in Belgrade before coming to the United States in 1987 to pursue graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Umass, Charlie worked as a Postdoc within the same research group and later continued as a Senior Research Fellow. In 1998 he joined the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (CEERE) at Umass and was a leader of the Building Energy Efficiency Program until 2006 when he left his job at University to devote full time to run private consulting and software development business Carli, Inc. He joined LBNL in October of 2010. He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications and is the author of the patent in the window energy performance field.
