Bio

Paul Sheaffer is a researcher in the Buildings and Industrial Analysis department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory with more than 30 years of experience in commercial and industrial energy efficiency.  Mr. Sheaffer is an engineer, researcher, and program manager with a broad background in industrial and building sector energy use; end-use technologies and markets; motor-driven, steam, and process heating systems; distributed generation; and standards development. Mr. Sheaffer worked as an energy consultant for more than 20 years before joining LBNL, and managed numerous large projects in industrial and building sector energy efficiency. He developed numerous tools, technical publications, training, standards, projects, certification programs, and efficiency assessments related to industrial and building systems efficiency and distributed generation.  Mr. Sheaffer is currently researching topics in the areas of energy efficiency, emerging technologies, and energy management systems.

The Energy Management Systems Team receives the R&D 100 Professional Team of the Year Award from R&D World for its ongoing international efforts to advance energy management business practices in the commercial, manufacturing, and institutional sectors. The team’s resources and practices have been adopted by tens of thousands of organizations worldwide, including large and small manufacturers, regional hospital groups, government agencies, schools and universities, and corporate and boutique hotel chains. 2017 Director’s Awards for Exceptional Achievement: Societal Impact -  April 3rd 2018

For research of barriers limiting adoption of ISO 50001 energy management business practices and development of the ISO 50001 energy and CO2 impacts methodology, which resulted in national and corporate commitments at Clean Energy Ministerial meetings and national efficiency programs.
