Minda Ma

Dr Minda Ma is an affiliate faculty in Building Technology & Urban Systems Division, Energy Technologies Area, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and his research interests focus on Building Energy, Building Decarbonization, Building Electrification, Power Decarbonization, EV Household Charging, etc.

Minda conducted the postdoctoral research in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 2022. Before joining the LBNL, Dr. Ma held the position of Shuimu Tsinghua Scholar at Tsinghua University in 2020-2022. Furthermore, he has been recognized as a World's Top 2% Scientist by Stanford University in 2023 & 2024, and a Highly Cited Researcher by Elsevier for four consecutive years: 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2019, Minda was the recipient of the Qian Yi Environmental First Award, awarded by Dr. Yi Qian (Academician of CAS). Additionally, he was honored as a fellow of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship program.

During Minda's work at Tsinghua, he spearheaded several projects, including the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science (21CJY030), the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation (First-class funding, 2020M680020), and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation (8224085). These projects focused on conducting carbon-neutral scenario analysis and pathway modeling for China's building sector.

At Berkeley Lab, Minda is currently at the helm of the Global Building Emissions (GLOBE) Database, a multi-regional dataset that aims to monitor energy trends, emissions mitigation, and building stock on a global scale. Some of GLOBE's noteworthy applications have been featured in international journals like Cell Reports Sustainability (2024), Nexus - A Cell Partner Journal (2024), Advances in Applied Energy (2023), Resources, Conservation and Recycling (2022), Applied Energy (2020, 2021, 2022, Apr 2023, Jun 2023, Dec 2023, & 2024), Sustainable Cities and Society (2023), and Energy Conversion and Management (2024).

Minda currently holds the position of assistant editor of Advances in Applied Energy (JCR Q1), young editorial members for Applied Energy (JCR Q1) and Petroleum Science (JCR Q1). Additionally, he serves as an associate editor or section editor for international journals, including Frontiers in Energy Research (JCR Q2), Frontiers in Built Environment, and Buildings (JCR Q2). In the capacity of a session chair, he has organized the international conferences like ICAE 2024 and Applied Energy CUE2020, CUE2021, CUE 2022, CUE2023, CUE2024 over the past five years.
