Abstract
50001 Ready is a globally recognized energy management framework that aligns with ISO 50001 and proven to help meet organizational decarbonization and energy goals. To meet the growing demand for workers familiar with ISO 50001 and 50001 Ready, and expand the energy management systems workforce, we developed two engineering focused courses for higher education institutions (i.e., universities, colleges, and junior colleges). The courses include a two-week and four-week curriculum that are designed to quickly onboard instructors new to the material and help them effortlessly integrate content into their existing engineering and energy courses. The two-week course is designed to help students become familiar with 50001 Ready, while the four-week course helps students work towards a 50001 Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems in-training certification. The four-week course also offers a course completion certificate to help students be more competitive in the job market. Educators who have taught the course material indicated that students are more competitive in the job market and are often hired specifically for their knowledge and familiarity with 50001 Ready. By expanding adoption of 50001 Ready concepts into higher education curricula nationwide, we are preparing the next generation of energy managers and providing a steady stream of talent ready to help companies meet their decarbonization and energy efficiency goals.
