Bio

I am an Energy/Environmental Technology Researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the Building Technology and Urban Systems Division. My research focuses on energy efficiency in buildings, with an emphasis on statistical data analysis.

  • As the technical lead on the Building Performance Database, I maintain the API and the database, and investigate trends in the data.
  • I work with cities to help them understand the impacts of enacting building performance standards legislation.
  • I analyze the energy savings potential of new technologies and systems using experimental data.
  • I develop software supporting the standardization of building energy data.

I earned a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California in Berkeley, where I studied statistical modeling of building energy use, uncertainty quantification of energy savings due to retrofits and measurement and verification, and sensor network design. I earned a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, where I studied system dynamics, control system engineering, signal processing, and embedded computing.
