We have developed a number of tools and guides for use in evaluating and implementing automated demand response in the market place. In addition, we have developed the Demand to Grid Laboratory, where interoperability of OpenADR-enabled devices and systems can be developed, tested and demonstrated. It comprises several large home appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator, and electric heat pump water heater) as well as OpenADR enabled lighting, electric vehicle charger and other devices. The space is specially wired to incorporate a non-utility reporting Itron smart meter to allow testing of device interactions with the Zigbee Smart Energy Protocol 1.x radio incorporated within the smart meter.
